Design Systems, a design consultancy based in Hong Kong, has taken the common, ubiquitous lamppost and transformed it into a contemporary fixture. The Embrace lampposts were developed as a part of a pedestrian path project outside of the Kaifong Community Hall. The lampposts were among several custom-designed “street furniture” pieces and provide light for both the pedestrian path as well as the trees that line the path. The five lampposts, whose circular shape embraces the decades-old trees, are made of mild steel with an epoxy paint finish. Their clever design is both aesthetically attractive and helpful for those that will use the path daily.
