With the help of Fougeron Architecture and Group 4 Architecture, the Ingleside Branch Public Library in San Francisco, California is helping to spark the revitalization of Ocean Avenue. The library features a dramatic front façade dominated by an egg-shaped room and a high canopy roof. The egg-shaped room houses a children’s reading room with a large, bench-seat window that puts its user’s activities on display. Heightening the one-story structure’s civic presence is the canopy roof, which is taller than adjacent buildings. Inside, the sloped ceiling features large skylights that bring ample light into the building. The goal of the interior design was to create a space that is intimate and that fosters relaxation.
