This incredible home in Ballarat, Australia, was designed to mix the warm feel of a cabin with the style of a modern home. Designed by Moloney Architects, their Invermay House achieves that and so much more.
To provide the home’s modern cabin look, designers carefully selected materials that worked well together. The exterior boasts a combination of concrete and fire resistant spotted gum, but inside the home uses wood finishes throughout to create an inviting interior.
The house is situated on a sloping site that allowed designers to capture amazing views of the south, while also maximizing the light from the north. On the ground floor, living spaces are designed to let the outside in, framing the picturesque landscape just steps away. Bedrooms are located upstairs and provide views of the treetop canopies surrounding the home — again lending the feel of a cabin.
Form follows function in this example of a modern cabin. By maximizing light, framing incredible views, and making the home more inviting than the original 1980s structure that it replaced, it seems like a relaxing place to spent time and enjoy nature.
