Bercy Chen Studio designed this boxy, multi-use building in Austin, Texas. The East 11th Street Building is a three story mixed used project that includes a musical instrument shop and boutique retail outlet. The second floor is reserved for office tenants while the third floor is residential space. The shape of the building is intended to emulate the geological exfoliation of the central Texas landscape. In addition to tying the building to its environment, the building’s shape also yields a number of terraces and canopies that engage the outdoors. The cantilevered second floor also provides a bit of shade for the building’s entrance, which is no doubt a welcomed feature to ease the intense Texas sunlight.
