Two living spaces became one seamless, modern family home during a recent renovation project by la SHED Architecture. The firm’s designers were tasked with creating a contemporary home for two adults and their children out of an aging duplex in the heart of Montreal.
The result was a perfect home for a young, growing family. Designers ensured that service areas, such as the closets, bathroom, and storage spaces, were kept to one area of the first floor. That allowed occupants to enjoy more open, clutter-free common areas with an open kitchen and living room.
Thanks to high ceilings, the main living area is airy and spacious. The height also allows more light to flow into the space. Wood lattices jut upward along the adjacent staircase to also accentuate the rooms height.
Missing from the original duplex was an adequate outdoor space so a patio was added. The space also allows for some greenery, giving the main living area an inviting garden to surround.
